week 22: The 1k Edition!
Welcome to the 12th edition of the Sunday Report! Got some cool things to share, so let's get to it!
Spatial 3D
So you might've seen the preview yesterday, but I have realtime SBS 3D conversion working well on iPhones and iPads. Which means you can dust off your 3DTV or 3D Glasses, connect them to your device and by the touch of a button activate the new SBS mode feature and play all your games in 3D.
I expect to have it shipped with the next update! So this should be before the weekend starts!
Next to that, I've found some more optimisations for our Vision Pro users so you'll see increased visuals at 60fps and I'm adding some accessibility options for those who have some depth perception issues so everyone can enjoy the fun!
Midori: The Xbox Remote Play/Cloud play client
Latest status is that some of the clients are approved, but not all yet. Going back and forth again with the App store review team, but I expect it to be launch by the end of the week.
The Asobi Porting Initiative
I'm still hard at work on getting the Asobi ports done to other platforms, so here's the current status:
- Android
So the release of the Android version has matured to the point that I'm close to releasing it. The plan is to submit it by Tuesday and will hopefully be approved/released by the end of the week. Won't be long now. More on which features will be available at release when it happens.
- Steam (Windows/Linux)
So the PlayTest is currently planned for mid-June, I'm going for feature parity with the Mac version of Asobi, although I might throw some extra stuff in if the processor is capable enough. One other thing, I don't have any Windows ARM devices available -> Any suggestions what to get to test on? Or should I just do that on my Mac?
- Meta Quest
With the Android version released, I'll be able to focus on creating Meta Quest specific features. One of them will be the immersive screen, next to that I'm going to test if I can get the Spatial 3D working on it. Keep in mind that this device is not as powerful as the Vision Pro. I'll try to get it working though, so bear with me!
Performance tuning
One other thing of note, the next update will bring some more performance updates, I've managed to find a couple more bottlenecks and toned them down, so you'll be getting a much more stutter free experience on worse connections. Next to that I've made great progress on frame pacing so I expect to be able to ship this soon as well and have it leave experimental status.
Asobi has reached 1000 members! 🔥🔥🔥
6 months in and we've reached 1k members on this subreddit and 250 members on youtube!! 🔥🔥🔥 What a milestone! Thank you all for supporting Asobi! It's really been humbling and exciting times! A real rollercoaster and couldn't have gotten here without your support. It's crazy how time flies!
If you've followed the journey from the start then you'll know I've been pushing the boundaries of remote play with every update. From bringing the lowest latency, to the highest fidelity; Realtime 3D conversion, Ambient Lightspill, special telescope controller support, onscreen lightbar, picture in picture with background controls on Mac, multiple screen modes and so much more..
My promise to you is to bring PlayStation Remote Play to the next level, I hope you're ready for it!
Because I'm bringing more to you very soon!
Thank you so much! 🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️
Can't wait to show you what's next, because I have some big things incoming! *
Thanks for reading! See you next week!
