Edition 18, Week 28: Summer time!

Welcome to edition 18! I've got loads to share, so let's get started:

Asobi for Apple

The next update for Asobi has gotten a bit bigger than I wanted it to be, it's become quite feature-packed:

  • Bug-fixes for all platforms (no more issues with Mac Minis crashing)
  • Adaptive frame pacing leaving experimental status,
  • New controller shortcuts that you can bind
  • Controlling the interface with your controller
  • New background theme options for macOS and iPadOS
  • Updated competition latency mode
  • User interface changes
  • New 3D modes
  • Some more polish to the experimental options
  • And just loads more.

I'm quite excited to get this done, but I just needed to do a lot of testing. And I've actually managed to find some time to finish up on next-level stuff which I'll share more about when I'm allowed to, super exciting stuff!

Either way, you should finally expect the next update to drop next week! I hope you'll like it!

Asobi for Android

There's an update coming for Android in week 28 which will add support for PS3 and PS4 cloud streaming, on top of that I'll add a new video pipeline for devices that have issues with the current video pipeline which might also help bring down the Android version compatibility, I kind of expect this to bring it down to Android 11 instead of the current Android 13 minimum, no promises yet but I'll let you know!

Asobi for Steam

As you might know, currently there's a bit of a slowdown to get approval for the Steam version of Asobi, I'm in contact with a IP lawyer to see what we can do about this. In the meantime I've made some changes to the store page and see if that alleviates the situation. I'll probably know more by Tuesday. Also, I'll keep on developing and expect to add PS3 and PS4 cloud streaming support by the end of next week. If in any case I fail to bring Asobi to Steam I'll work on distributing it myself.

Asobi for Meta Quest

It's close to done and I expect to be able to submit it to the Meta Quest Store next week. I hope you guys like what I did 😄. I'll see if I can drop some previews next week!

Midori for Apple

The next update should drop next week with support for local multiplayer, and mouse and keyboard support via remote streaming on cloud and remote play streaming, some bug-fixes and performance enhancements in relation to upscaling and frame generation for older devices, some user interface tweaks (although a bigger overhaul is planned). After that I'm focusing on bringing more Asobi features to Midori.

Midori for Android

I've had quite some requests to bring Midori to Android as well, which seems to be something I needed to consider properly. It's crazy to see how well the Apple version has been received by the Xbox community so I'll start looking into how I should go about this and when I can bring it to Android as well. Either way, big thanks to the Xbox community for the love and appreciation!

In the News

Although I've seen Asobi pop up on YouTube and on news outlets on the web, a new achievement has been unlocked! Asobi has been featured in the August edition of Mac Life Germany! It's insane and humbling to see Asobi show up in a printed magazine! Many thanks to the team at Mac Life!

In Closing

Time to get back to work! Thanks for reading and many thanks for all the feedback and support!

Have a great week!
