Edition 23, Week 33: The Week Everything Happened At Once
What a week. Seriously. Like some kind of emotional roller coaster ride ๐๐๐. You can make schedules all you want, but sometimes things just happen all at once.
Good news first:
Steam PlayTest is out now!!! Meta Quest PlayTest is out now!!!
Unexpected to have Steam out in the wild as of this time. So what happened?
Well, the original plan looked something like this;
- Asobi for Apple version 1.4.2 relay testing + finish up any bugs
- Midori version 1.0.4 new features + finish up any bugs
- Release Asobi for Apple version 1.4.2
- Release Midori for Apple version 1.0.4
- Release the Meta Quest PlayTest
Seems semi-uneventful to me, but this week had different plans, what actually happened was an easy start of the week on Monday with some Asobi for Apple version 1.4.2 relay teand getting the TestFlight out there so testers could test the new Internet Remote Play relay.
Which incidentally has also resulted in building a completely new Internet Remote play video pipeline, which was hardly planned.
In getting ready for the Meta Quest PlayTest, I added some last minute polish and update which sadly broke the immersive view".
In the meantime I've been adding more new features to Midori version 1.0.4 than expected, which was supposed to be released this week
On Wednesday I felt like finishing work on the new internet/cloud connection screen for Asobi
Then I finally released the Meta Quest PlayTest last Thursday, which has been well received as you can see here and here
That same day I received news from Steam support that I'll just have to wait longer than the usual 3 to 5 business days which is when I posted this, and that's where it was darkest before dawn and I thought this was never going to happen. Oh boy, was I wrong.
Friday: the fun started. I finally received an email from Steam support that the release version for Asobi needs one more setting adjusted, which needed to say "3rd party account access required", if I'd had that set earlier, it would've already been approved for sale.
Then I seem to have missed the email saying "The PlayTest is approved", which I discovered when I went looking for the same "3rd party account access required" setting for the PlayTest version and it was approved -> thought about it for 2 seconds and clicked the big green "Release" button. Which didn't go unnoticed ๐
Which was paired with a lot of confusion when the queue for players waiting for access just kept going up, which it still is doing btw as I'm writing this. It's crazy how many players have access to the PlayTest as of right now and it just won't stop going up: 5k in just 48 hours.
Don't even get me started on the loads of late nights talking with my man u/Jdunrrp
And of course getting humbled big time by an appreciation post from u/Sockobotto
And now it's Sunday and as I'm writing this Sunday Report I get news from u/phraze91 that Asobi is now on Eurogamer .... and on Videocardz ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Either way, back to work, time to fix some bugs.
Plan for the coming days:
- Getting the updated Steam PlayTest build out asap (controller navigation and cloud library fixes)
- Fix the Meta Quest immersive screen
- Release version 1.4.2 of Asobi
- Release version 1.0.4 of Midori
Let's get this done.
More next week!
P.S. Played more Halo than expected.
