Edition 30, Week 40: Sayonara
Welcome to the Japan Edition vol.4 (Edition 30, Week 40) of the Sunday Report!
I'm back! Jet-lagged out of my mind and tired, I've only been back for a couple of days but damn.
I'm going to miss Tokyo, met up with some old friends, made a couple of new ones and made great progress on securing a bigger future for Asobi. I honestly hope that this will all work out well and that there'll be an announcement somewhere in the next 12 months, we'll see.. that said, I'll probably head back in the coming months.
Although I won't miss typhoon season. Damn 😅
I've added some more outtakes in the gallery btw, should I share more? I still have a lot of other pics from Japan and especially TGS. What do you think?
Either way,
It just seems the craziness won't stop, every week I wonder what I'm going to write about and yet here we are: Edition 30 -> 30 weeks in a row of writing about Asobi and Midori. Hopefully I'll still have something to write about when the 50th edition drops!
Got a big surprise yesterday when I received a text from my buddy u/Jdunrrp that a video dropped by one of the biggest VR and Mixed Reality influencers on YouTube and yeah, Asobi for Meta Quest got a big shoutout, which resulted in quite an influx of Meta Quest PlayTesters, to you I say: Thanks for your interest in Asobi, I hope you'll love it! 🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️
Development
Well, I did not expect to crack PS3, PS4 and PS5 local co-op for cloud so soon. Did you? Either way it works and it's here, which means Asobi is now the only remote play client that covers all PlayStation local co-op via Remote Play and Cloud Play. Another fantastic milestone! I'm excited for you to get your hands on it.
To think I'm not done yet since I have some really great ideas for it as well, something I've done with Midori but with a twist. You'll see soon enough!
The new Asobi website is close to finished, anyone want a sneak peek?
Work continues in bringing PS4 cloud streaming support to Asia, which I hope to finish soon.
And as you might've noticed, work has started on the iPhone Duo version of Asobi, which will be ready for when the device is available for retail. It'll first cover the basics up until I actually get the device in hands so I can work my Magic. I have some really great ideas, I just hope it translates well to the actual device.
I'm now also in the reservation queue for the Steam Frame, so I hope I'll be able to buy it soon so I can bring some Steam Frame specific features to it as well.
And I'm very curious on what the new Meta VR Glasses will be like 👀
I should also have some more news about 4K Remote Play next week, so wish me luck!
The updates;
Asobi for Apple
Although version 1.5.1 is a bit delayed due to time (and jetlag), I've got loads of new stuff coming to the Apple platforms. Virtual Controller 2.0 is getting close to its final release, I'm working on the last parts to make it a bit more intuitive, but it's getting there. The CRT on Vision Pro will get some nice visionOS 27 upgrades as well and some more new ways to play. I'll share some more next week!
Version 1.5.1 is planned for week 40.
Asobi for Steam
Build 13 is underway, and will hopefully drop later tonight, which will feature PS Cloud local multiplayer, for all PlayStation cloud generations. Although the Steam version was the first to have PS4 local co-op remote play, with build 13 it'll also have the PS5 version of it. Other than that I'm mainly focused on bug fixes. After that I'll start work on build 14 which will have much improved controller and gyro support. Build 14 is planned for week 40.
Asobi for Android
I'm doing the last couple of tests for version 1.1.1, which should drop later today. Besides being the first platform to get PS Cloud local multiplayer, there's a lot more new features incoming. I've added the experimental version of Virtual Controller 2.0, new screen filters, local co-op for PS4 and PS5 remote play, DeX support and some interface tweaks. I hope you guys like it. I'll have more time from next week to get that Android TV version done, more on this soon!
Asobi for Meta Quest
Well, that was quite an influx of new testers, glad for you all to join in! Full release is close to launch, and I have some great ideas on how to integrate local multiplayer via multiple Meta Quest headsets. Let's get the release out of the way first, then I'll start adding more features (you guys know I don't stop at initial release right?)
Midori for Apple
New release incoming at the end of week 40. I'm close to done with integrating Virtual Controller 2.0, 3D modes are done for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, colour filters and so much more! I hope you guys'll like it!
In closing
Thanks again for all the support! You guys are the best! I still have loads coming so again, keep your suggestions coming and let's take Asobi to the next level!
P.S. Jetlag is fun. So is sleep.
P.P.S. obligatory Japan song vol.4.
