Edition 29, Week 39: Tokyo Game Show!
よっしゃ、行くぞ! (Let's do this! 🔥🔥🔥)
Sunday Report! Japan Edition vol.3 (Edition 29, Week 39) is here!
Tokyo Game Show was great! Crazy how long these queues can get, I'm just happy I was there to network with the other business peeps.
I have to say, it was great meeting everyone there. Got to share some development horror stories. Made Japanese people's ears bleed with my mediocre Japanese, although I did make some new friends!
Coolest thing I saw? Definitely the giant Final Fantasy Meteor. Worst thing? Getting in a random Final Fantasy queue and discovering at the last moment that it was a photo-op for getting jumped by none other than Sephiroth, and then not able to escape the queue (I did my best to make something cool of it, but really out of my comfort zone)
I left some pics in the gallery, I have more and might share when I have some time. But it was honestly well worth the time spent and really cool to see what the schools and indie devs are making -> there's some really cool stuff there!
I'll make sure to go again next year!
Development
Gonna be crazy in week 39. I will drop an update for every platform. All of them will have PS4 and PS5 multiplayer from this week.
And all platforms will get the updated cloud gaming library that dropped with version 1.5.
Most of my time has been spent on research, and I kinda hit a wall to what's left to be discovered. As of now, I can pretty much implement anything Remote Play/Cloud Gaming related. The only bottleneck is time and making sure I have parity between all platforms.
Some of the highlights that you'll see dropping in the coming weeks ahead: Cloud server selection, trophy messages, game guides, surround sound support, party support etc etc.
There's just so much to come, and this is just the basics: There's a lot more platform specific stuff coming. The main idea behind Asobi is to get the most out of each platform in what each platform can do. The Steam version will have exclusive features just like the Vision Pro; you guys will like what's incoming. There's still much to be done.
Of course compatibility and stability will always take top priority, so stay tuned -> you'll see regular updates dropping from this week on.
Speaking of updates;
Asobi for Apple
The current plan is to drop version 1.5.1 by the end of this week. I have some special stuff coming for Vision Pro: TGS has inspired me to build something special for it.
Virtual Controller version 2.0 will get some fresh new features, and hopefully it'll be the last experimental update for it, so I can swap it in to replace the old version as default (I'll keep the old version around of course)
I'll also do my best to get the iPhone Duo update out in time for when the device is released!
Version 1.5.1 is planned for week 39.
Asobi for Steam
Build 12 dropped last week, which had loads of bug-fixes. Main focus for build 13 is more bug fixing and support for more platforms. Also as mentioned before, build 13 will have remote play multiplayer support for both PS4 and PS5 remote play games.
Version 1.0 Build 13 is planned for week 39.
Asobi for Android
Multiplayer remote play is functional and I'm currently focused on finishing up navigating the user interface via a controller. It'll be a solid update, I tried finishing it up before the weekend -> but was too tired from TGS.
Version 1.1.1 will be released in week 39.
Asobi for Meta Quest
Not much to share as of yet, I'm just waiting to release it on the Meta Quest store, which should be soon.
Midori for Apple
I'm still porting most of the Asobi functionality, and Virtual Controller v2.0 will be ported the moment it's finished for Asobi. After that it's time to work on some UX stuff.
In closing
As some of you may have noticed, the subreddit has become quite a bit busier, we went from 1k members to 3k members in a matter of weeks, even the YouTube channel has hit 1k subscribers! Insane when you think that Asobi still has to celebrate its first birthday (which is coming up soon! New website also dropping soon! 👀)
Again, I can't repeat this enough. I couldn't have done this without your support! So keep that feedback coming! Post here, email me, post comments on YouTube or Twitter. Let's do this! 🔥🔥🔥
Have a great Sunday! (It's almost 1am on Monday for me, which means I'm dead)
P.S. Typhoons are wet.
P.P.S. obligatory Japan song vol.3
