Edition 28, Week 38: Big in Japan
みなさん、元気? (How is everyone doing?)
Welcome to another special Japan Edition of the Sunday Report!
Let's start on what the current focus is on. As most of you know it's possible to stream PS3 and PS4 games on Asobi, what you might not know is that it's actually only available for accounts from Europe and the USA. What I'm working on is actually getting owned PS4 games to stream so Asia can join in on the fun. Which also means that everyone will soon see PS4 games pop up in their owned games list. Kinda neat right?
Downside is that the fundamentals for this introduced a bug with version 1.5 of Asobi for Apple which made some PS4 versions of games disappear. Don't worry though, a fix is incoming.
Other than that, the meetings in Japan are going well: first steps have been taken for Asobi to have a great future ahead, although these things take time. Hopefully I'll be able to share more in relation to what's actually happening behind the scenes.
For those interested, I'm at TGS this week. Should I post something about it, with pictures? Let me know in the comments!
Ok, let's chat updates!
Asobi for Apple
Version 1.5 dropped last week, and I've already started work on 1.5.1 which should be out in the coming days. Some of the fixes should include PS5 and PS4 games not being unified anymore (sorry about that), Virtual controller version 2.0 improvements and the first bits and pieces for Asia to be able to play some of their owned PS4 games via streaming!
Also, I have some pretty great plans for the iPhone Duo, so stay tuned!
Asobi for Steam
The current focus is to get a parity update done with the Mac version, which means I'm implementing the Remote Play couch co-op and Cloud updates in here too, while I try to fix as many bugs as I can find. So please keep those bug reports coming so I can finally release this app officially on Steam!
Also, when the full release becomes available: Expect some Asobi for Steam only features to start dropping!
Asobi for Android
I've made good progress on the new version for Android. Realtime 3D conversion is running and navigating the user interface via a controller is working. I just need to do some more testing so that I can start migrating multiplayer and the new Cloud changes to it.
I'm aiming for a week 39 release!
Asobi for Meta Quest
I'm still prepping Asobi for Meta Quest for the full store release. I actually just got the go ahead for some of the attestations needed, so it won't be long now!
Midori for Apple
I've managed to squash a couple more bugs, new features are incoming and work has been proceeding well enough to have a general idea when the next release is coming, most likely in the week that I'm back in Europe. Also 1440p Remote Play should just work out of the box!
Either way, thank you all for the immense support! And keep that feedback and bug reports coming!
良い一日を! (Have a nice day!)
P.S. Super exciting week inbound!
